Dearly beloved, a disaster have come upon me - my notebook is infected with a deadly virus! It is so serious that normal 'disinfectant'could not clean it up. I manage so save some important documents and the rest of the files have to be deleted. In fact right now all the systems inside (you geeks can call it OS, hard disk, etc & whatever) has gone kaput! I need to bring it down to HP service centre to reset it. How long its gonna take? - only God knows! For the time being I got to fight for my time & space with my 3 gals & 1 teacher in the use of 1 pc at home.

This week I started a 3 week teaching duty for the GNK childrens' church. Today, I just had my first seesion - always enjoyed my time with the little ones. Praying that dear God will inspire me to give my best to the young ones. I'm always very fortunate to get people to help me in my teaching. aGrace do up all the teaching power point for me, Charles do all the object lessons set up for me, Jasmine help me with the props...whew: what would I do without them?

Now PoJ also "kachiau" me for not updating - I didn't know he also interested in the life of PCK!
Life's one big challenge for me & really living day to day. This also gives me plenty of opportunity to thank God for His providence & guidance. You people who are studying (eg PoJ) ain't see nothing yet if you think studying is tough - wait till you join the workforce: esp in S'pore!
Actually I've been a bit disturbed by this trend of thought by the young adults joining the workforce - seems like quite a few of them are talking about "must have a life" when working. By that I understand it means that no way they are going to work until "no day no night". I'm just wondering which occupation they can choose for such a "life", especially when one is just starting out to the working world. I have returning goverment scholars returning to work here and they are already complaining on being "kick around", seeing only the floursecent lights from morning till night, etc etc. This seems to be pattern whether one is going to join the finance, IT, media, bio-tech industries - even being a teacher also not easy now! Still these young adults wants a life where work can be "switch-off" at 5pm, let their hair down in the evenings, week-ends are for them to "do their thing".
So PoJ - what are your thoughts. Maybe Downunder not so stressful & competitive?

This one is about vision - or my lack of it. How else can you explain that I lost 2 pairs of specs in December - 3 if one count the one that I found the next day! Don't ask me where I misplaced/dropped them and don't ask me to tie a chain on the specs to my neck or something - can't stand it! The last one I just use it once to read something at the end of the Bt Timah climb on a Sunday (& my boss ask me to accompany the Kinabalu climbers for 1 week as he is not in town) and viola I forgot to bring the pair of specs home! The next day (& with a heavy heart - didn't dare to tell/ask anybody - not even Rosie) I drove to the Bt Timah ranger's office hoping against all hope that some kind soul will find and return my specs. Whew - they said they saw it the next morning and I sheepishly sign some documents and scoot off.

I went back to the carpark to really breathe a sign of relief. Since the recovery of this pair of specs was so unexpectedly fast, and amid the tranquility of the shaded carpark I decided to read a devotion. The title of the day's devotion almost had me choked - "Vision Restored"! The first sentence read: 'How many ways have your eyes been useful today?'.....Anyway I'm sure you spiritual guys out there know that the article was talking about spiritual vision & eyes rather than physical one, but the timing was just too much for me. As my good friend says: 'what is God speaking to me...'Well, I must give you the last sentence of the devotion too - here goes: 'Fortunately, God can renew both your faith and your focus when you turn to him for restoration'. It even has a quote there (in the midst of scripture passages) - God has made for us two kinds of eyes: those of flesh and those of faith. -St John Chrysotom. What I really need for the moment is physical 20/20 vision!

A few weeks later I saw in the morning news that there is a way to overcome Presbyopia - longsightness lah! This involve the 2-3mm incision to remove our natural lens and insert in a multi focal lens: all in about 10mins! The doctor claimed that vision restored (the word again!) is equivalent to a 20-30 year old adult! Of course there are potential risk, side effects etc but.....I'm a risk taker, right??! By the way it cost about $4k per eye and me being PCK - where got so much money! So I ask my pastor Ah Seng asking him if it is ok to solicit for money over the blog (as he chastise me once for soliciting a guarantor for Rosie over the blog). He said go ahead and so you guys out there who is reading this - you think I can raise about $8k for the operation? You people don't realize how difficult it is for me to live with this 'thorn' when I had good perfect eyesight for 40 years and now for the last 10+years have to get used to progressive lenses.

I now have 3 implants in my mouth. Am I to succumb to 2 implants in my eyes?

Update report on Rosie: SHE GOT A SURETY MAN! Somebody in church offered! - and no sermon preached to her! Rosie probably got to buy this guy a big meal - & of course I'll be there. PTL

Thursday, January 25, 2007

Oh man - PCK got this problem: Rosie (i.e. PCK's wife - for those who still don't know) need 2 surety (guarantors). Rosie is furthering her studies - yes: even a contractor's wife need to upgrade herself in this time & world! As she would be bonded by the goverment for another 2 years, so they need her to find 2 person to make sure that she don't run away. (As if Rosie will go anywhere!). Rosie actually got her 2 brothers to sign the form & they gladly do it (I wonder if they know what it was for as they love Rosie so much). One is a godly pastor and the other is upwardly mobile, double income, 2 cars, 1 landed property and spare cash! But now the goverment says that only 1 sibling is allowed and PCK is over 50 and therefore cannot be her guarantor (What a relief for me!)

She just told me over the dinner table that she is afraid to approach the church for help (I thought the church is her extended family). She thinks that some will preach to her that standing as a guarantor is not scriptural. Others will not want to be "tied" down to this obligation of $40k (oh, I forgot to mention this earlier??). She also "pai seh" and thinks that she will be rejected by so many people. Moreover she says that since PCK becomes the EA, he has stepped on so many toes, she's afraid to open mouth! I told her she got the dough - just let the guarantor knows! Anyway, if she still cannot find the courage to ask her family in church, I may consider putting this request in the church bulletin - as she told me the good friends in church don't read blog!. Failing which, we will advertise in the Times for guarantors then....Jehovah Gireh!!!
